After an epic trip to Gabon in 2016, our group of South African fly fishermen will be returning to the land of giants in two weeks time. This will be the second dedicated shore based fly fishing only trip to this magical place.

Our American friends, Jeff Currier and Mike Le Sota, who joined us last year could not make it and are replaced by Mike Gradidge, Frikkie Botha, Armand Flies and Grant Dunbar. Along with myself; Arno van der Nest, Garth Wellman and John Travis will make this their return trip.

Last year saw some exceptional catches including cubera snapper, longfin jacks, Senegalese kob and African threadfin. The highlight was probably the three tarpon that was landed on foot, on fly from the beach.

The only species that we saw few of was the African threadfin, of which we only managed one from the beach. I’m really hoping we’ll score a bit better in that department this time round. Keep an eye on this space for trip report early March.
