The Feathers & Fluoro team have been busy of late, with not one, not two but three of the guys featuring in podcasts from the USA, Australia and South Africa.

LEROY BOTHA ON THE FEATHER MECHANIC PODCAST

“Alas, poor Yorick, I knew him Horatio.”

Gordon van der Spuy, aka The Feather Mechanic, is a lot of things. A professional actor, author (check his book here), a fly tying guru and instructor and now, an accomplished podcast host. In this, the second episode of his new podcast (the first one features our issue 34 Lifer, Tim Rolston), he chats to one of our Garden Route brethren LeRoy Botha (aka the GOAT) about fly fishing for spotted grunter (including excellent advice), hitting the pancake and tying the perfect deerhair fly. It’s a fantastic listen from two guys who know more about fly tying than most people walking the planet.

ANDRE VAN WYK ON THE AUSTRALIAN FLY FISHING PODCAST

The man, the myth, the legend – our very own Dreyfus’/’Dre’/’Albino Rod Zombie’ van Wyk, has just featured on The Australian Fly Fishing Podcast hosted by Josh Power. In a wide-ranging interview, the pair cover everything from Dre’s upbringing on the South Coast of KZN, his experience fishing the Seychelles and St Brandon’s, GTs, his bucktail fly tying obsession (more on that here) and the trip he has just returned from to Oman (more on that here). Josh is a great interviewer and Dre is so relaxed you think he might fall through his own poephol, so it makes for easy listening. Perfect for the tying bench.

FRED DAVIS ON THE VENTURING ANGLER PODCAST

The Feathers & Fluoro crew keep representing, with Qatar-based co-commander-in-chief Fred Davis cracking the nod to feature on Tim Harden’s The Venturing Angler podcast. Fred is one of seven people who fly fish in Qatar (that he knows of), which, when you hear about how he can jump on his SUP and hook-up to Soubaity bream and a bunch of other species within sight of his apartment, means he has some great fishing almost all to himself. Fred and Tim get into the allure of DIY vs guided fishing, the long list of countries he’s fished from well-known destinations like the Seychelles to more unusual options like Uganda or Djibouti, the appeal of permit (and the similarities with steelheaders) and a whole lot more. Another cracking podcast.
