I recently managed to get down to the Inland Sea in the south of Qatar. I don’t get to go down there that often these days but I managed to line up a quick trip during my last holiday. It was a quick shoot down between school dropoff and pickup. A just shy of 4-hour round trip to one of my favourite places to target Queenfish on foot.
I fished the usual spots – sand flat edges that drop into about 8m of crystal water – without too much to write home about. I then moved to a much shallower area in the north of the lagoon. I saw a chase, stopped and put a fly out that was immediately hammered. After a second fish in as many casts, I propped my GoPro on the roof of my car and hit record.
Little did I know I had it set to a timelapse.
Luckily the fishing was so good it didn’t matter.
Here’s a taste of how good the fishing gets out here in the desert…
