If you were hanging around Key West, Florida in the late 1960s, you may have encountered a group of soulfully intoxicated musical and literary legends. The crew was brought together at one time or another by Tom McGuane, the “prodigal son of American Literature in the 1970’s” and the productive, cowboy-esque tarpon fishery in the straits. Out of this confluence of icons (including Jim Harrison, Richard Brautigan, Russell Chatham and Jimmy Buffett) flourished friendships that would last a life time, and if you weren’t with them, you’d almost certainly want to be them.
During that time, Guy De La Valdene and Christian Odasso captured this crew and the fishery, put together in an “obscure” documentary called “Tarpon” in 1974, that wasn’t released until recently. Now, five decades later, Yeti presents the story behind the story, in memory of Jimmy Buffett and Guy De La Valdene. Watch the reflective short documentary, “All That Is Sacred” by director Scott Baller here.
