BABY BULKHEAD: STEP-BY-STEP FLY TYING

BABY BULKHEAD: STEP-BY-STEP FLY TYING

The Baby Bulkhead is a bucktail streamer pattern with a strong baitfish profile. The bulkhead way of tying means that this fly pushes a lot of water, but still has a decent sink profile. This ‘rough and ready’ way of tying a bucktail streamer saves a lot of time while still producing an effective saltwater fly pattern. Watch how to tie it in this video. ย

Fred Davis of Feathers and Fluoro ties the Baby Bulkhead, which he uses uses to target predatory fish such as queenfish, bream, garrick and more. Watch the full video below.

BABY BULKHEAD MATERIALS:

  • Hook: Any decent saltwater hook.
  • Thread: White or red, thick denier.

  1. Excellent pattern which I prefer to Gunner’s original bulkhead, although I still fish that pattern. Great demonstration on how to tie the baby bulkhead.

    Thanks Ian
