The following information was brought to my attention by the Cape Piscatorial Society Committee:
The annual CPS River Festival will be held from 31 October 2014 to 2 November 2014.
Due to the unpredictable condition of the Holsloot River it was decided to reduce the total number of available spaces to thirty guests (plus fifteen guides) and we will only utilise the Elandspad- and Smallblaar Rivers. The structure of the event will be the same as it was in the past and will be organised by Denton Ingham-Brown and MC Coetzer. As always, we will stay at Merwida Lodge outside Rawsonville where we will meet for sundowners and dinner on the Friday evening. After breakfast on Saturday morning guests will spend the day on the streams being guided by some of the best stream fishermen in the Western Cape and in the evening we will relax with a braai and hand out some great prizes in the usual lucky draw. On Sunday morning guests can depart after breakfast or spend the day fishing on the streams.
The event has been a great success in the past but this year we have been unable to secure any title sponsor for the event and this has unfortunately forced us to increase the price slightly. In order to encourage members (and non-members) to commit to the event as early as possible we have decided to run an early bird special until 15 August 2014. Until this date the cost per entry will be R 1750.00 but thereafter the entry fee will be increased to R 2250.00. This entry fee is still extremely low when compared to any of the other fly fishing festivals in the country and any profits will be used to purchase materials for the CPS’ library.
CPS Reminder:
AGM
The AGM will take place on 14 August 2014 and this will be the Society’s eighty third AGM. That’s a very impressive figure. The meeting is scheduled for 18h00 (to start at 18h30) at the offices in Hout Street.
It is extremely important for members to attend the meeting as it is the best forum to voice opinions, raise concerns on how the committee has performed their functions over the past year and to have direct input into all matters affecting the Society. Members are encouraged to propose themselves or other members to stand on the committee as it is always good to have an injection of fresh ideas and new energy into the committee.
Any nominations are welcome and encouraged but the committee specifically needs the assistance of a person who can serve as treasurer. Unfortunately Josh Gosling and Simon Hitchcock are no longer able to serve on the committee and we have been unable to fill their positions. In the interim we have made use of True North Accounting but it will definitely be in our interests to appoint a new treasurer internally.
We will send out regular reminders of the AGM but please diarise the event and join us for a glass of wine and a snack.
