Experimenting with silicone claws

Experimenting with silicone claws

There is one thing that I hate about my semi realistic crabs… The claws.   If you look at any crab, the most prominent feature behind the shape is the claws.  Ive been happiest with trimmed feather claws, but still not 100%.  So this weekend I decided to try and add some silicone claws to crabs.  Pretty happy with the result.

I went a step further an tied some Jannie Visser inspired JAM flies.  You get Jam flies and jam flies.  If you’ve ever seen one that Jannie tied you’d be blown away…and you’ll understand why so many unsuspecting grunter have mistaken it for a prawn.  So I had to have another go.  These are big boys on 2/0s hopefully destined for a Steenbras.  That darn Steenbras that keeps evading me.

  1. Hi Andrew, thanks for the comment. We fish these over mud, so its important that it “hovers” over the mud. Hook up means it sits too low, and the fish can’t suck it up as easy. Its presented stationary.
