International Fly Fishing Film Festival 2024 is on its way to South Africa for yet another installation of epic fly fishing visuals and story telling. Fly Fishing Films SA are putting on shows in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg that will follow the same format as done over past 7 years (expect merch to fly towards you at 1000kmh). This year their sponsors have pulled out many stops with travel and tackle prizes to the value of more than R900,000. Keep an eye on their channels to see what’s up for grabs!
WHAT YOU WILL BE WATCHING
The 2024 IF4 election will take us globe trotting, from hunting Iceland’s sea-run browns in Vivid Dreams, to the South Caicos of the Caribbean, where the same film makers exhibit ankle-deep bonefish water. This year’s line up is humming with stories from the Amazon, featuring our favourite jungle species, including golden dorado, peacock bass and many more. Then, The Runaround takes viewers on a trip from Florida to the Bahamas, where a tight crew target a multitude of flats species, and A Ride With Clyde, where The Drake Magazineโs 1974 Mercury Marquee supports some Appalachian trout hunting. Finally, the Hooke team shows off Canada’s Atlantic salmon and Arctic char fishery in Tunulik. Watch all separate trailers below.
EXTRA ADDED BONUS!
Fly Fishing Films SA, the hosts, will be accepting a South African made video production this year. The winner will have their film shown at all three South African shows and will receive a Shilton reel of their choice as a prize. It can be of anywhere in the world, but it has to be through South African eyes. Submit your films of no longer than 6-7 minutes to keith@roseinnes.net.

A RIDE WITH CLYDE
“Hop in for a ride with Clyde, The Drake Magazineโs 1974 Mercury Marquee, and tag along with the cast of Tailer Trash Fly Fishing as they leave saltwater in the rear view mirror, for a summer full of surprises in the hills of Tennessee. From not so secret spots to familiar tail waters, the Tailer Trash crew never takes life or fly fishing too seriously. THE RUNAROUND
“The Runaround is a high-energy film that follows a group of friends and fly anglers on one of the wildest adventures imaginable. After bad weather ruins the group’s plan to stay at Walkerโs Cay for two weeks, the team comes up with a plan B. This new plan takes them on a โrunaroundโ from Jensen Beach, Florida, to Walker’s Cay, Bahamas and then back down south to the Everglades all in just 10 crazy days! From sight-fishing jacks and monster bonefish to catching baby tarpon, snook, and sea trout in the ever glades, this is one epic trip you donโt want to miss.”
TUNULIK
“Follow Fred Campbell and Renaud Furlotte, of Hooke, as they travel to the isolated region of Nunavik in search of trophy Brook trout, Arctic Char and Atlantic Salmon. They spend a week exploring the Lagrevรฉ River immersing themselves in the true wilderness of the North, where fish are wild and abundant and nothing has changed since the beginning of time. Armed with their fly rods and cameras, they share what fly fishing on one of the world’s best brook trout rivers looks like.”
PINAWACA
“Embark on an extraordinary journey with renowned fly-fishing guide and explorer, Jako Lucas, as he ventures deep into the heart of the Amazon jungle with friends in search of legendary, and massive, Peacock bass. His exploration unveils a hidden tradition among the indigenous people – a centuries-old art of fly fishing, aiming at catching the elusive Peacock bass on a fly they dub the ‘Pinawaca’.”
