Tied and designed by Jimmy Eagleton. The Mohawk ‘Punk’ Kwan is a fly for sandsharks aka lesser guitarfish on South Africa’s West Coast adapted by Jimmy Eagleton. While it may resemble any kind of bottom feeding baitfish/crustacean, the fly is actually designed not to be seen by the target species, rather more for the angler to sight. Other sandshark flies, like Leonard Flemming’s Bearded Clouser are fished in a more conventional manner.
In this step-by-step fly tying tutorial, Jimmy Eagleton of Retro Fly Studio takes us through how to tie this unique yet simple pattern, and the nuances that make it so effective when fished in the correct way. Watch the full video below, or read about it in issue 45’s Fluff.
