Deep in the wash of some Omani cliffs, we kick off this issue with fly fishing in Oman. We look at Trachinotus africanus, aka “The 4th Permit”, as targeted by Oliver White and Jako Lucas on a recent trip. Read about this snub-nosed weirdo, its predilection for Stuart Webb Russel the Love Mussel and its bi-polar fighting style.

Then stage diving upfront we’ve got an interview and a Beats playlist with punk-rocker/tattoo artist and fly fisherman Sebastian Murphy, Jazz Kuschke and LeRoy Botha go through the “Valley of Flames”, to smash both smallmouth bass and garage pies, while Peter Grylls tells a story with his yellowmargin triggerfish frenemies in the Maldives.

Matt Kennedy takes us through a journey of wild stillwater trout initiation in in the Eastern Cape in “Highland Tribe” and Leonard Flemming took on the inaugural African Waters Bokong Flyathlon, in “Trout Boxing”. Our High Fives features Kenyan young gun Blaede Russell, there’s a Lifer with Marius Rousseau and a Troubled Waters courtesy of Craig Hill from Qwantani Berg and Bush Resort on the Sterkfontein Dam yellowfish poaching problem.
