Springtime is associated with great fishing, well at least almost everywhere across southern Africa. The months of September and October are some of THE best for us fly fishers. For instance, the CPS river season starts on 1 September (and how many of us look forward to that!), many of our yellowfishes become very active in September and start staging before they spawn in October; and October, besides being simple knowledge that it is one of the best tigerfish fishing months, it’s also known as Kobtober by us Capetonians.
But unfortunately, for me spring means hard graft. Between dealing with long hours at work due to the equine breeding season and then dealing with two very lively boys ‘after-hours’, means there’s nearly no time left to throw a line. So generally, I have no choice but to be satisfied with a few fat carp at the local.
