The Air-Head Caddis, as originally tied by Gary LaFontaine, mimics an emerging winged caddis. This modified pattern as tied by Herman Botes (of Papa Roach fame), was designed for fishing twilight caddis hatches for yellowfish along the Vaal River.
The prominent deer hair/packaging foam wing makes for a very buoyant and visible fly; certainly a must have dry fly pattern in any angler’s yellowfish fly box.
These are the ingredients used to tie the Air-Head Caddis:
- Standard size 10 dry fly hook Nano silk thread
- Green Antron yarn
- Apple-green Ice dubbing
- Coastal Deer hair (bleached)
- Cul De Canard
- Aerothene packaging foam – comes in many packages.
