THE MISSION IN THE MEDIA

THE MISSION IN THE MEDIA

Fly fishing is having a bit of a moment at the moment and that is perhaps one of the few silver linings we can take from 2020.

With more and more people spending time either at home or out of traditional office spaces, there’s been a lot more time for people to evaluate what is important to them and what they want to prioritize in future (along with the basic needs to survive financially and avoid the plague).

What that has meant is that under varying degrees of global lockdown regulations and social distancing guidelines, more people than ever are engaging with nature. For the fly fishing world, that’s good for business and brands in the US are reporting booming sales.

Down here in South Africa, it’s meant that we are getting a little more attention than usual. So, bear with us for three sharp toots of our own trumpets:

1. There’s been this incredible coverage in the Sunday Times (front page of the Lifestyle section noggal).

2. Then there was some love here in Business Day, focusing on how fly fishing and fitness go together (no sitting on your arse all day….nosssssirrrr!).

3. And, last but not least, there was this podcast with New Zealand-based journalist Gerhard Uys of Let’s Hope The Weather Holds. If you want a bit of background on how The Mission got started (chaos), how we work, create covers and put out each issue, this is a good place to start.
