Step 2: Spin the body with deer hair. You will have to spread the deer hair around the tail before you spin it. It won’t spin easily due to the thicker section from tying in the tail. The first cut when trimming your body, should be one cut flat underneath the body. This is important to open up the hook gape.

Step 3: Trim the body into the shape as seen above.

Step 4: Tie in an under wing of white or orange yarn. I prefer this to CDC purely because I haven't got any CDC good enough to stay dry long enough.

Step 10: Bring the dubbed thread all the way to the front on the hook and then tie the head of the fly off.

Step 11: Snip the foam off the remaining foam only once you have completed the fly, and there you have a VDS Hopper.
