Dearย interested fly fisher,
Join us for the next CPSย Vice Squad on Thursday 16th April. The lineup includes freshwater and saltwater patterns generously demoed by the following fly tyers:
Dragons of the Deep
Lakies Dragon by fly tying expert and CPS veteran Ed Herbst.
Damsels in Distress
Damsel pattern by fly tying instructor Gordon van der Spuy whose tying tips can be found on Tom Sutcliffe’sย website.
Dynamite in small packages
Mini Clouser for Permit by fish sculptor Chris Bladen.
Shark Bait
Shark Fly by Jimmy โthe sharkmanโ Eagleton.
An added bonus – Squirmy Wormy vs the Blob
Stellies students Nick van Rensburg and Matt Gorlei of FlyBruย will engage in a speed-tying contest of two controversial flies if they can tear themselves away from their fฬถiฬถsฬถhฬถiฬถnฬถgฬถ ฬถdฬถrฬถiฬถnฬถkฬถiฬถnฬถgฬถย studies for a moment.
COMPETITION: Hoppers
Bring your home-tied hopper pattern and the winner (as selected by our esteemed judging panel) will receive a small mystery prize. This Vice Squadโs prize is supplied by Upstream Flyfishing, 021 762 8007. The brainchild of CPS secretary Louis de Jager, this competition will run throughout the year at each Vice Squad with new themes for each evening from crabs to buzzers, streamers to tiny stream dries.
Need to knows:
When: Thursday 16th of April, from 6pm till late
Where: CPS Club Room, 4th Floor, The Mercantile Building, 63 Hout Street
What: fly-tying and fly fishingย chit-chat
Who should attend: This is not just about fly tying, but also a chance to talk fly fishing with a bunch of like-minded people and up your game. It is open to CPS members and non-members, beginners and grizzled veterans alike. Hopefully the non-members feel inspired to join…
How it works: While we have asked several guys to come and demo a few patterns, this is most definitely an informalย evening. If you are not (yet) into fly tying or if specific patterns being demoed donโt interest you, grab a drink at the bar, watch one of the great fly fishing DVDs we will have on the projector, check out the CPS library of fly fishing books, bring your fly boxes, pick someoneโs brains, plan trips with mates… basically kick back and enjoy yourself.
What to bring:
– good vibes and an inquisitive mind
– fly boxes
– Bring cash for the CPS bar (R10 per drink for any drink) or BYOB
– pizza will be ordered during the evening so bring cash for that (R100 usually covers it).
We hope to see you there.
Yours sincerely,
Tudor Caradoc-Daviesย
