West African Permit

West African Permit

Good friend, fish-scientist and fishing-nut Fabien Forget sent me this pic from his time in Gabon. A cracking fish estimated around 25lbs that evidently gave an extremely impressive account of itself.

My question is whether this is Trachinotus falcatus – the fabled Permit of the Keys and Carib – or Trachinotus maxillosus. (http://www.fishbase.org/summary/Trachinotus-maxillosus.html) – the Guinean Pompano or Permit?

Any ideas welcome…
